I think in NY we try, at all costs, to respect each other’s privacy, but you go elsewhere and it’s all, “whatcha doin’?” which is shocking at first, but I enjoy it.
On the crowded air train back a girl was leaning over me and said, “Sorry, I’m gonna be hovering over you,” but I looked up and she… wasn’t looking at me when she said it, just out into space.
It’s a funny city.

I grew up in a big city myself, but now that I live in Florida I’m all, “Good morning!” with a friendly smile this and “Here, let me get that for you” door-holding that. Courtesy is totally infectious.
